Raku is birthed in a fiery explosion of such extremes that many pieces shatter. When the raku pot reaches a red-hot 2000 degrees, it is carefully pulled from the kiln and plunged into a pit of wood shavings, instantly igniting a raging inferno. Overnight the pot will smolder. Those that survive wear the radiant flashes of color that only Raku can create. The potter, the earth, and flames shape the pot the way that life shapes us. If you can survive this trial by fire, you too become beautiful and 'one of a kind.'"
